Christmas has been hanging in the air for quite some time now and then, just like the snap of the fingers, it is over.
This Christmas was different because from the moment we got up, to the time we opened the presents, we were on a time frame to get packed and on our way south. We left with dishes on the counter unwashed, presents left in a heap in the middle of the room, and food stuffed into the frig hoping it would still be good when we got back. Off we went to Beaver Dam...a little stop outside of Mesquite in Arizona where we stayed in a cabin.
It was so nostalgic as we drove through Virgin River Canyon, through St. George, through Mesquite, to the Valley of Fire, etc. I remembered my dad taking my kids to look for Christmas Tree agate, a picnic where the wind blew sand into our faces and food, and the many trips back and forth from my home in Henderson to BYU. Things have changed a lot in the years since I have traveled that path. It was a lot of fun to see and share some memories with my children.
We haven't taken a trip during Christmas for a long time but this was a great adventure. One that wasn't decided until the last minute with little planning ( not the Christensen way!) but worth the effort and interrupted nights as the grandkids schedules were mixed up. You never know how things are going to go or turn out but as I kept reminding Brooke --what's the worse thing that can happen?
