Making Memories

Checking out the cut electric cables
We went to Whit's family cabin last week.  We discovered no electricity when we returned from a hike.  Late that night Mountain Electric came and found the cable had been cut by the guys working on a water line.  We ate and played games by candle light.  It was pretty fun.  We sat in the dark and got to ask each person a question like "What is the greatest thing you have accomplished so far?"  It was a insightful way to learn more about each other.  It is amazing what you can do when there is no phone, no doorbell ringing and no cell or internet reception.

One of my favorite places to go is Mirror Lake.  We haven't been there in a long long time.  We drove over and thought it would be deserted but there were lots of people fishing.  We hiked to another lake and tried to skip rocks in Mirror Lake.  Tried.  No good flat rocks around!
Walking around the lake
We stopped at the Provo River waterfall

On the way back from Hidden Lake

We were quite sad to leave.  We had to get  back for RS Women's Conf.  It was so beautiful and peaceful.  Brooke and Whit stayed and went to church up in where ever you go up there.  We especially had fun being with Winston.  He is a lot of great entertainment.

This week we went to Brigham to finish up with Kim's parent's home that is sold.  We divided things up as best as could and then did some cleaning.  It is very hard to believe that we will not gather here again.  So many memories.  Some of the things I enjoyed looking at and remembering was the creative way in which Dad used his resources to make what they needed in the house.  He is a product of the Depression.  It is something that will always stay with us...how he made do with what he had.
Railing to help get out of bed in the mornings
Conference is always a special time to me.  We get tickets because of Kim's calling.  I am very grateful we can go and be at the Conference Center as much as we are.  There is a special spirit there that you can't get anywhere else.  This was a particularly unique time because Kim got to go to Priesthood with all of his brothers.  Benjy and Dallin were able to go also.
Joseph Smith building was the meeting place

Kira and I went shopping while the guys were in their meeting and we were able to run in to a special friend from Brigham.  It was very fun to be with Vivian.
Good bye Barb
Conference brings back memories from long ago.  I used to miss classes at BYU on Fridays so I could listen because it used to be for three days long ago.  It is such a great time to recharge and rethink my life.  I love how personal it is and how I am reminded of who I am and why I am here.  I loved seeing Kim with all his brothers and being able to visit with them.  We wonder what the common ground will be now that Mom is gone and who will gather us for different occasions.  Life is precious.  People and family especially are so important.
Lastly...we had to take a picture together of our diminishing friends.  First Donna left for Africa on a mission and now Barb is headed to Ohio to serve.  I am so happy for them but miss them.  Ilene and I have been exercising together in the mornings for 15 years with Donna and Barb joining later.  We have seen each other through many hard and good and fun times.  We have pushed each other to be in shape for the very reason that we all wanted to serve missions with our husbands.  I feel left behind.  I am sure grateful to have such good examples.
