Happy Birthday Winston

Not a lot of honey this year

Happy Winston with his cousins...Whit's sister's children

Hard to believe Winston is one year old!
We've been "spooked" if you can see the paper on the door.  We didn't want to make any goodies because we are trying hard to cut out so much sugar so we took the plate and delivered our delivered goodies to someone else.  Sneaky, probably unethical but calorie free.

This is the year of pumpkins and squash.  I don't know if I just planted the wrong kind but none of them got big.  They are baking pumpkins and I mix them with the buttercup squash.  They make delicious soup, bread and pies.  My mom gave me a roasting pan that she had forever.  I put the squash in it with some water, stick them in the oven for an hour and voila...easy peazy pulp.  Don't you love Fall!
The day may come when the courage of men shall fail
When we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship
But it is not this day
An hour of wolves and shattered shields
When the age of men comes crashing down
But it is not this day.
This day we fight
by all that you hold dear on this good earth
I bid you stand, Men of the West.

I love this quote from Lord of the Rings.  It is a great reminder that all things are doable and we just have to begin and do our best and the Lord will make up the difference.
"I believe when we determine within our hearts that by and with the blessings of God our Heavenly Father we will accomplish a certain labor, God gives the ability to accomplish that labor; but when we lay down, when we become discouraged, when we look at the top of the mountain and say it is impossible to climb to the summit, while we never make an effort it will never be accomplished. " Heber J. Grant ...Teaching of President p. 37
It is always good to be reminded at times when we feel overwhelmed that we can do hard things.
