The Beginning of ....We Really Went to Hong Kong

Waiting, ever waiting in the Salt Lake Airport...cancelled flight.  Whaaaaaaaa

We finally made it to Hong Kong on Saturday night after leaving Friday morning. My, how time flies?
On our way to church...first the subway, then walking
San Francisco airport was shut down when we got to the Salt Lake airport early Friday morning because of an accident on the runway.  No one notified us and we missed our connecting flight to Hong Kong.  We flew to LA that night and got to Hong Kong Saturday night.
Notice the green hill ahead as we walk...we explored it the next morning....as your will see
Our apartment was smack dab in the middle of the textile section of town.  We were probably the only white people around.  The apartment had a great cooling system so were able to sleep in that hot humid environment.  Man, the heat would just slap you in the face.

The Temple across from the Mission Home
We first went to the Chinese ward so Kim could hear Chinese.  We had headphones on and some nice soft spoken young lady gave us the English.  It was not easy to hear but it was nice that a recently returned missionary spoke and we could feel the welcome of the Chinese saints.

The Chinese ward, the Mission Home and the Distribution Center all rolled into one.

Church headquarters and another ward meetinghouse

Loida's family with Filipino members ...they have Sunday services every day for the sisters that work.
Our walk the next morning through a park where everyone was exercising
McKay and Loida have met with the Filipino sisters before when they came to Hong Kong for Visas.  They are so welcoming and friendly.  Many of them are nannys and house cleaners.  They work long hard hours because it is hard to find a job in the Philippines. They don't get paid a lot.  They cook a big meal at the end of the meetings and all eat together.  We were too tired to stay and eat...whaaa.
Climbing the hill that we saw going to church from the other side.  Notice the ladies playing badminton below.

It truly was a jungle smack dab in the city.

Shrines were everywhere and people were worshiping or praying

Our favorite way to travel was the double decker buses.  You could see everywhere and they were crazy drivers...what a thrill!

I did not see any scaffolding that wasn't bamboo.
During the night, we heard lots of loud noises and after looking out the window we realized that they were filming a video down below us where a very popular bar was located.  They had someone directing traffic ( it was 3 a.m.) and big flood lights.  Being the tired souls that we were, we waited until 6 a.m. to go out exploring our area.  We saw lots of people doing their "tai-chi" and some people jogging or walking the track.  It was pretty warm and muggy but nice for walking.  We went past a few people playing badminton minus a net.  We saw a long stairway up into the "jungle" and so we decided to try it.  Off the path in many  places where pads with people exercising or shrines with the incense and statues of Buddha.
Ferry ride to McKay's part of town...they were staying in a hostel

We ate here a few times...it was close to the apartment-they had yummy drinks!
