April Showers and A Rotting Roof--Let the Fun Begin

We knew we needed to replace our roof for a long time but not until we finally began tearing off the shingles did we realize just how badly.  The wood had rotted all around the perimeter of the house and the facade.   No wonder we had leaky window sills and water running down the brick.  We decided to save some money by tearing off the double shingled roof ourselves.  It was in the middle of the week and storms were threatening.

We had to hurry!  We had two days and we welcomed all help as the project became larger than anticipated.  We live in a great neighborhood and many came to our rescue.  The sad part is that most of them are older like us...slow going!    We were happy we didn't lose anyone off the roof.  It was probably the hardest work I have done in a long time and I was grateful for the cooler weather.
There was a micro-burst just after they got all the tar paper down and it was shredded in the wind.  Our
next door neighbor lost her flowering plum tree
and a neighbor across
the street lost his pine tree.

The roofers worked until it was dark and got the roof done in two days.  It looks so nice but now we have to replace the paneling underneath  the overlay and get new this and that...I can't remember their names!
It has turned out to be a very long over due and now make up expensive job.
Remember the saying "A stitch in time saves nine" ?   So totally applies here!

This is Mary Suratt.   She ran a boarding house that John Wilkes Booth would visit and organized men to kidnap Abraham Lincoln.  My sister in law Chris did research ( Kim's mum is a Booth) and some was used for the movie about Mary Suratt's trial.
After using the gift card to get in, we know why we don't go to movies...Holy Cow expensive.   We had $2.50 left on the card and we got Jr. mints...the kind that cost $1 in the store.  We had to pay $1.50 more to buy them with the left over money on the card.  Crazy.  We really liked the movie.  There is a lot to think about.  I would wait for the $1 theater however...nothing is worth paying that kind of money for!
