Tyler started out as an EFY counselor when he was a student at BYU. He would come home hoarse, tired and pumped. Now he is an EFY speaker in the summer and has spoken in Vermont, Bloomington, Kentucky and now BYU Idaho in Rexburg. We were excited to have him come West and asked if we could go and hear him speak. He made arrangements for us to pick him up at the Salt Lake airport and Kim, Wynette and Tyler all drove to Rexburg. We were amazed at some of the changes to the campus since we haven't been there since our daughters attended what was then called Ricks.
Tuesday Kim and I jogged up to the temple from our hotel. An older couple passed us on their way down the trail and the man made a comment about how nice it was to see "old" people out jogging. I told him I was sorry that he had to use the word old! When we arrived on campus and went to the Morningside, there was the director of that EFY session that we passed while jogging. We went to Tyler's class first on Gospel Life Long Learning and saw a young man from our ward. Yea! We enjoyed visiting with the youth and got VIP treatment as Tyler would point us out to his classes and we were taken to the head of the lunch line.
We were disappointed to find the Rexburg temple closed but enjoyed a great session at the Idaho Fall's temple. We ate at Fongs ( a tradition with the girls), went to the theatre, played tennis, jogged through the campus and did hills, and more hills for a 5 mile run, swam, and loved being with Tyler and the youth. They were great and the classes were motivating. We were so happy for the opportunity to be with Tyler and experience EFY. Many things that he told us about when he was a counselor, we could experience and enjoy with him as he spoke for two days. It was like a mini Education Week only better because the kids were so great.
In the last picture, Tyler is with a young girl whose brother is currently serving in the Durban South Africa mission. She knew about Bryce because her brother told his family about him. It was special to talk to her and feel her love.
Kim is a little sweaty because he just finished playing tennis with Tyler. The temple made a great challenge and objective to jog to in the mornings...it was on a hill!
We are grateful to see our children now as we remember and think we still are...a young couple just starting out and learning how to function in the real world. We had a wonderful time being with Tyler and miss him and his family so very much but are grateful that they are happy and doing great things in their lives.
