From Lemonade to Wheelchairs

This week I got a newsletter from the Humanitarian Dept. of the church.  It had a great article that reminded me again of the power of one person.  I would like to share some of it.
Zachary Bird and his fellow students at Wasatch Elementary School in Provo, Utah raised nearly $1,300 to help victims of natural disasters.
It all started when the president of the school's parent-teacher organization called a member of the school board.  What, she wondered could students, parents and staff do to help those suffering from the most recent disaster in Haiti? Would wheelchairs help? They called LDS Philanthropies and found wheelchairs were needed and cost as little as $86.
Each class was given a two-liter pop bottle with a sign that said "Make a Change."  Zack decided to earn $86 all by himself, his mother said. " We discussed options and Zack decided to sell lemonade and homemade cookies."  Zack planned out how we could help him and we provided the necessary items to get him started, his mother told.  Not only did Zack earn the $86, he encouraged his friends to help.  Through his efforts of advertising and Facebook, the school and community were able to buy 15 wheelchairs.  Not only did Zack discover the power of one, he discovered the power of many.
