Do these people look familiar? Your dad and I went over to the cemetary for the Memorial Day program. It had been raining on and off all morning but stopped for the program and then resumed afterwards. It was very inspiring to be reminded that freedom comes with a price. I was happy to see my Institute student, Riley and his wife at the program. He has just returned home safe and sound from Iraq. He was a leader of a platoon of 40 men and he said the Utah group of 120 that went over all came home. There were injuries but all came back and he said this was very unusual. My favorite thing is to see these flags waving in the breeze to us silently saying "I fought so you could be free." I love Memorial Day! We went to the Voorhees for a barbacue. The chicken was cooked outside but we stayed indoors as it continued to rain. We had a fun time playing "Signs" and it was nice to have Russell Voorhees back from Guatamala. We had a patriotic FHE, sang songs and ate lots of good food. Gelfi had a good time talking with those that speak Spanish. Today marks the end of two years that I have headed up a study group of women in our Stake. I turned in my keys so to speak and turned it over to someone else to carry on. We look forward to decorating our fathers' grave this coming Saturday. Wish you could all be there!

In the Oregon
So I am in Oregon now. I finally have the Internet and have set up my computer. I can blog now. Yay.
For starters, about a week before I left for Oregon, I went to Logan to spend a night in a cabin and go to Bear Lake.
A week after that I trekked to Oregon. Quite a lovely place it is.
I have been here for a while. I have a pretty crazy roommate situation and really am not supposed to be living here. I spend a week with the wonderful Burnett family.
My many adventures for my internship have included getting sunburnt, getting wet and cold, picking weeds, spraying trees and organizing the greenhouses. I imagine I will be able this week to get to do something more enjoyable.
I am tired and will go to bed now. I shall post pictures to demonstrate my thoughts:

Weekend happenings
I had a hair appointment on Thurs. and I could not find the place in Salem. It hurt because I was in the van and I drove around for 1/2 hr. We made another appointment for the next day when I called and explained. The next door neighbor came after me and she has a son in Bryce's mission...Elder Clare. We had so much fun talking about Africa and missions!! I really like my new hair dresser ( Sister Soffe's suggestion). Friday night we went to the Garlicks in Highland for dinner and a slide presentation of their trip to the Ghana Mission. The mission president is a good friend of the Garlicks so they went while he was still there ( will be released next month). We learned alot about Africa and some of the pioneers like Brother Bishop. ( We got lost going to their house too and that hurts with the cost of gas). Saturday we shopped until it was time to get ready for Monty's sealing. It was so interesting to see both of their families and think about how they are and what their background is. It was a wonderful sealing and I know that the sealer was very inspired to say things that were just for Monty and Annelisa. We came back to SF for Matt and Mary's reception and enjoyed visiting with Matt's family while we ate refreshments. The funny story of the night was when Valerie and her husband stopped at the table to visit and after she left, Matt's grandmother said...why does she look so familiar? Valerie was Matt's only girlfriend that he had forever before Mary. We came home and watched slides of Bryce and Dallin snowboarding and a movie that I left because I was not comfortable with it. Today we went to Russell Voorhees ward which would be our old ward to hear him speak after returning from Guatamale. That was hard because all these cute kids had grown up. We have now lived in SF for 12 years ( in June) and have been away from the WHII ward for 7 years. Alot happens in that time. It was wonderful to be there and to see Bishop Voorhees conduct. To see more pictures of the happy couple, go to my picasa. What a busy time this is!

my star studded saturday!
greetings familia. it was kind of an exciting day for me yesterday. to start off the day, i went to a single's conference where brother and sister shroder spoke. that would be ricky shroder from our beloved show silver spoons! it was kind of exciting to see him in person and hear about his conversion. he and his wife had some really good things to say. after that i went and met my friend holly, who is a teacher at east high where they are filming high school musical 3. the production said they would donate money to the school for each volunteer that came to be an extra. so we went to support our friend holly. and be in a movie. we were there from 10:30 am until 2:00 am, so it made for a reeeeeaaaallllllyyy long day, but it was fun to see how things work in a real movie. this one is even coming out in the movie theaters so i can't wait to go see it to see if you can see me cheering. we were on the fourth row by one of the baskets at the state championship game, so hopefully we'll be on screen for at least a second or two. we got to see all of the stars that were in the movie and it definately made me never want to be a movie star. there is no way i could handle those hours every day! but it was fun to do once. hope everyone enjoyed their weekends as well!

poetry, memorization and such

There is a great speech by Sister Tanner titled "Learning by Heart" in which she tells of her husband's request for memorized poems for gifts. She says" He has always felt that memorization gives our children and me a chance to give himsomething that we can also keep for ourselves. It is a gift from the heart when we learn things by heart. "
I decided to compile all the poems written for Mother's Day by the "boyz" and also some others so here is a sample:
Maybe I'll Write You a Mother's Day Poem by Bryce
Maybe I'll write you A Mothers Day poem When you're home all alone
And there's no one to phone. At least you'll have A Mother's Day poem.
Maybe I'll write you A Mother's Day poem When it's hard as a stone
And you're starting to zone. At least you'll have A Mother's Day Poem.....
Maybe I'll write you A Mothers Day Poem Now you're children are grown
And you might want to moan But remember you have A Mother's Day Poem.
Here is Tylers:
Mom is great, mom is nice,
Mom does give me great advice,
When I think she's done it all,
Mom goes the extra mile and orders pizza from Papa Johns.
Here are two from McKay:
My mom she is really great,
She waits for me when I'm out late.
She is so neat,
and awfully sweet
And always puts food on my plate.
I wrote this poem on Mother's day
just to say a simple 'hey'
I like to eat toast
and will always love you most
even when you are old and grey.
Here is one your dad wrote many years ago:
I've thought what I could give you on this special day.
More flowers? Candy? or a new
Piano you could play?
But dreams are for the dreamer.
these gifts will come in time.
Today I'll be much nicer,
I'll be gentle, warm, and kind.
I'll change our darlings' diapers,
I'll cook our every meal,
I'll make your work olad lighter,
And on my knees I'll kneel,
To thank my Heavenly Father
For a wife so kind and true.
And ask to bless our daughter
That she'll become like you.
Here is one from my grandmother Fife:
Do you think you could be bright, dear,
Just like the beautiful sun?
Do you think you could be happy,
As the brooklet you see run;
Or happy as the birds
That sing in orchard trees;
Or be always busy, busy,
Like the happy little bees?
If tempted to do wrong or steal,
Would it be an easy task--
Would you stop and think about it,
Would you steal or go right past?
If some day you were tempted
To tell an awful lie,
Don't you think you'd always see it,
Printed high up in the sky?
Which way would be the best, now,
To scould, or be just bright?
Think before you leap,
And you'll always come out right.

TyandNat Mother's day weekend
We had a pretty enjoyable weekend... here's the skinny.
Friday. Natalie met with her publisher to talk about the book and ask some questions. It was a great meeting and Natalie is learning a lot about getting published--this has been a great experience for her. While she was gone I scanned some of her pictures and finished creating her websites to showcase her artwork. You can find it now at www.nataliechristensen.com. In the evenign we ordered pizza and they messed up our order so we got a coupon for a free pizza--pretty cool. We watched "The Final Season," a poorly done movie by Sean Astin about a high school baseball team.
Saturday. I was awake with Sharon at 4:00 and able to finish preparing my talk for Sunday. At 7:00 we loaded up and went down to the Louisville, KY temple. When I finished my work there we talked to Bryce and the rest of the family on the phone (he gets to call from South Africa for Mother's day). We then drove over to the zoo and spent the beautiful afternoon there. Here are a few pictures.

Sunday. I gave a sacrament meeting talk on "The Sanctity of Womanhood." I basically regurgitated Elder Scott's talk of the same name from 2000. Because of the topic I was given I became very emotional and had a hard time giving what I had prepared. It was definitely not one of my more masculine moments.
After church we ate and the other three took naps while I continued cooking. In all I'd say I did pretty good for the day: I cooked crepes for breakfast, did grilled ham and cheese for lunch, poppeyseed chicken with all the fixins for dinner and a baked cheesecake (that I prepared Friday) for dessert. We ate it with our friend Sage. When we returned home I finally got ahold of mom on the phone and we chatted for a bit. Here's my Mother's day poem for her...
Mom is great, mom is nice,

Oh, a couple more things. I also updated our family website over the weekend and added a couple of videos. You can see them at www.tyandnat.com. And... I wrote a few book reviews over the weekend. You can read them at www.richonanyincome.com. O.k. That's all.

Mother's Day Came Early This Year again!
This is the missionary phone call that all missionary moms get excited about at least two months before it happens. We had Ty and Nat in Kentucky, Kira in Tucson, McKay in Portland and us in Spanish Fork all on a phone listening to Bryce.
It was confusing at time and Ty and Nat lost their connection but it was just fun to all be together for a few minutes to hear Bryce's voice. I don't think it gets better than that for a mom. Some people are still in their pj's because it was at the early hour of 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. We spent the day putting in the garden, cooking for Sunday, shopping, eating Chinese, rollerblading and being together. We were so in to togetherness that we all napped at the same time. On Sunday we went to Brigham to celebrate Mother's Day with Grandma. We went to church, visited, went to the cemetary, and ate all the food that Dallin picked out for the day. I got phone calls from McKay, Ty and Nat and Kira to finish out a very fun weekend. I am so grateful that I belong to such a wonderful family. I have learned so much from my kids and feel life just can't get any better than when I am with my family or get to talk to them. Thanks Kim and kids for fillling my life with happy moments and times!!
