Adventures at BYU

This morning I went with Kim to BYU...in my own car...just followed him in and met him in the courtyard outside the library where we were fed a yummy breakfast of Belgian waffles, strawberries, whipped cream, fresh fruit, eggs, sausage and drinks. We had an older lady flag us down and we slowly realized it was Marge Bradshaw gone blond...she is Pres. Bradshaw's wife. He is teaching his final semester of biology this year. We had a nice visit with Marge as Bill was rather quiet. We then went up to Brother Broomhead's room and got him to go to breakfast and visited with him. We went up to the Marriott for an address by Pres. Samuelson and had a good visit with Jo Hadfield afterwards. He works with Carrie Jenkins...BYU PR person and they (Stephanie and 2 boys) bought a house on Center and 9th East near a baseball field? He said it seemed quit cheap after houses in San Fran. He is enjoying his new job ( probably makes more than dad) and said that he really enjoyed the class reunion. He said the highlight for most was when they just past a mike around and everyone got to tell what they were doing in their lives. Jocelyn Clark was next to me in RS on Sunday and said she enjoyed the SF reunion and thought TB did a great job of putting pictures together. You can check it out on the SF 1997 reunion site. Dallin just went to get McKay at Whitting campground. I dropped him, Matt and Keith off yesterday at Covered Bridge and they backpacked to Springville Canyon. Dallin ended work yesterday and can hardly wait to head to BYU tomorrow. I will try to be brave. I am thinking I want to hike Spanish Fork peak and have a new experience...it is the same height as Timp. We are probably going up to Brigham on Monday. The end as we know it. Hey Brooke, I am jealous you got to go to Trial Lake.

isn't this fun"

I'm so glad people are posting! Fun picture of bryce in the sky :) last weekend i got to go camping at trial lake in the uintahs. they said it would be cold so i went prepared--i slept in my flannel pj bottoms, long sleeve t-shirt, two sweatshirts, two pairs of wool socks, three blankets, and my sleeping bag. i was warm but not too warm. it was just uncomfortable with three of us on two air mattresses, but who really sleeps when you are camping anyways? saturday afternoon we drove to mirror lake and took a nice leisurely stroll around the lake. it was beautiful! that's all.

email in reply to Dallin's comment about being a minority in Atalanta's WalMart

Aug. 26, 2007

This is my first blogging experience. Here is an update of what I did last week. First my car had been overheating so I took it to the shop to have a mechanic look at it. My water pump had died and so I had to get a new one and I ended up pay close to a thousand dollars to get it fixed. Yikes!! It runs well now and it sure is nice to have a car again.
We had a regional single adult activity yesterday at the ballpark. I didn't go to the water games in the afternoon because it is just to hot to be outside even if you are getting wet! We had dinner and then a dance. I haven't been to a church dance since Utah State. It was fun but I wish they would have played some better music. I actually got asked to dance. It didn't last very long though. They played the slow song for about 15 seconds and then turned it off and said they were going to save it for later. I got to know the guys name and that is about it. I had a lot of fun but about an hour into the dance, I went with Julie to the bathroom to towel off, I was sweating like mad!, and I look at my behind and to my suprise my shorts were soaked all the way through. How embarrassing!! I couldn't go back to the dance floor like that so I went home. At least it won't be so hot next month and I can try it again. They have dances every month.
I learned how to do blood draws and how to start IVs this past week. It was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. Starting IVs is the one thing that has scared me most about going into nursing. I am feeling a lot more comfortable with it now that I have practiced but we practice on plastic arms so I don't know how much it will help me once I have to do it on a real person. They won't let us practice on each other due to liability reasons.
I hope I didn't bore anyone too badly. My life is just so exciting!! Until next week.

Eli's bday (8-26)

Eli turns two today!! In true Eli fashion he woke up sick yesterday just in time for his party. We called all the parents to inform them of his cough and learned that most of their kids were sick as well (probably how Eli got sick in the first place). Everyone still showed up and we had a great time. The kids played on the play ground, had cake (which Eli's stomach decide to share with my shoulder), did an obstacle course, broke a pinata, and Eli opened presents (mostly cars and trucks). The kids had a great time.

After the party we went out for Chinese buffet (mom and dad's present to ourselves) and then went swimming in the evening. Because it was his birthday we let Eli go on the waterslide as much as he wanted, which was the whole time we were there... we wore me out!

Today Eli woke up sick so he and I stayed home from church and played together. He threw up just as his nap started so he is going on no sleep but it doesn't seem to matter, he's been extremely happy all day. I guess it's good to be king, if just for a day.

Post from burned out Educated

This summer has been rather on the crazy side. My kitchen floor has not seen a mop the entire warm and sunny days time. I am missing my help with the bathrooms and realizing that I have no more kids to assign ...I am it. Dallin is having his last fling of the summer by going to Atlanta with McKay, and Kira has begun a new term at school. Dad's hand is still swollen and tender and his appointment with a specialist is not until a week from next Tues. I hope he gets his real right arm back one of these days. I have been at Education Week and loving it but my tush and brain will take some recovery time this weekend. I am already implementing Shelly Wille's crazy ideas and have friends coming over on Sat. night for a Nummy Noodle Night. I told McKay about some of her ideas to have fun as a family and with friends thinking they would be great date ideas but he has turned his thumbs down. I will let you know how playing hockey with water noodles works out. I have taken many classes on teaching. Now I am ready to try again to see if I can implement broader class participation, revealing and applying principles, and having great openers. Life could not get better unless someone would come home and help me eat all the fresh salsa that Kira and I made. Dad is gone till late tonight with "Little Philmont" and I have had my own little philmont as I have greeted friends at Education week that I met in New Mexico ...one is even a presenter. If I can figure this out I will post pictures that Kira took of Julie Beatty Frazier and her jewelery and book bags made from place mats. I have learned how to crochet hot pads and that has been a highlight of my summer! Love you guys! Love the picture of Eli hanging on...I didn't even see him the first time I looked and then I put on my glasses. MUM

hooray we have a blog! go family1

i hope everyone posts stuff on here. how fun will it be to see what everyone is up to? so last night was dinner club for us. we decided to pack a picnic and go see a free concert at deer valley. so i'm posting some pictures of us at the shin dig. the first group to perform was an irish punk band named swagger. they were totally like the flogging mollys and dropkick murphys. made me think of bryce :) the main event was a lady named mary beth maziarz. i really liked her a lot. i even bought one of her cds after the concert! fun times. tonight i'm going to see becoming jane at the movies with the girls. i'll let you know if it's worth paying full price. cheers!

Tyler & Natalie Christensen family

We're getting excited for Eli's 2nd birthday on Saturday. We'll be having a party at the park similar to what we did last year but this time with a Mater (from the movie Cars) pinata. Here's a look at the invite we made...

In other news, school is about to start (next week) so we've had a lot of new members of the church moving in and have been busy helping with things. We've had several member move into our neighborhood, which is pretty exciting for us.

Things are going well with Natalie's pregnancy. She is not 6 months along and starting to get weird cravings (like eating dinner in the evening, and a glass of water before bed, and cereal for breakfast). She's still pretty active and we're getting excited for our girl.

I've been really busy these last few weeks with work. I'm on a new project where I have helped design the curriculum for a course that new instructors have to take (it's kind of like a support group for a bunch of ed psych teachers teaching for the first time). I will be researching how the adapt to being new teachers and studying the ways that we can best support them so the transition is smooth. This project is much more aligned with my career objectives than Quest Atlantis was so its a really big opportunity for me.

Here is my attempt to get a blog going for the family. We'll see how it goes.
